Designed completely from the ground up, the brand new Vitashower VS-1 shower filter is the result of over 2 years of research, development and customer feedback. We took the time to listen to what our clients had to say about the SF-1 and documented everything. The result is the highly anticipated and much improved Vitashower VS-1 Vitamin C + Vitamin E Premium Dechlorinating Shower Filter.

The image above is a side by side comparison between the older SF-1 (on the right) and a brand new unfinished prototype VS-1 shower filter. Notice the much improved upper portion of the VS-1 as well as the reinforced gussets on the cartridge assembly. You will also notice an improvement in the color and thickness of the plastics between the two shower filters, although the photo really doesn't do it justice. It's something you have to see for yourself in person to fully appreciate.

Here is a detailed account of how the Vitashower VS-1 differs from the Vitashower SF-1 shower filter:

Improved construction - The VS-1 uses only the highest quality polycarbonate (PC) and ABS plastics available to ensure long life with zero maintenance. The new shatter proof housing is designed to resist leaking, cracking and all other failures related to normal residential shower use. The gasket material within the VS-1 is an odorless, colorless and long life SBS rubber. This is the same type of material used widely with food preparation and within the medical industry as well. This non reactive type of rubber compound is guaranteed never to fail or corrode for as long as you own your shower filter.
No more brass inserts - Unlike the brass fitting used with the SF-1, the VS-1 relies on high strength polycarbonate fittings to achieve similar results with even greater success. This colorless and odorless type of high strength plastic has nearly the strength of steel and is non reactive to metals and will not leech into the vitamin cartridge below. This means no more metallic odor to your shower water as sometimes seen with the SF-1.
Replacement cartridges (VS-2) - Due to the hundreds of comments from our clients asking for this feature, we have incorporated a quick change user replaceable cartridge system into the all new VS-1. The cartridges, Vitashower VS-2, will be sold separately and will allow clients to quickly unscrew the old cartridge and replace it with the new one without having to replace the entire shower filter unit.
Anti-back flow feature - One of the shortcomings of the SF-1 was its tendency to leech vitamin solution into the water that would remain inside the shower arm when it was not in use. This created two issues. The first was a shorter overall life expectancy for the SF-1 and the other was possible reactions between the metal of the shower arm, brass insert and the Vitamin solution. We have incorporated a self sealing gasket that only allows the vitamin solution to be released when there is water flowing through the system. Once the water is shut off, this gasket automatically creates and airtight seal against the vitamin cartridge, no longer allowing the leeching phenomenon to occur. The result is a much longer lifetime per cartridge.
Enhanced Vitamin Blend - In contrast to the SF-1, which utilizes mostly ascorbic acid, the VS-1 features a more balanced blend of Vitamin C through the use of mineral ascorbates. We tried several different combinations before deciding on which one would provide the best dechlorinating performance while enhancing overall skin & hair texture and feel. We also added the powerful antioxidant Vitamin E to the blend as an extra level of protection. The two antioxidant components work together to continually rejuvenate each other to prevent oxidation and to maintain freshness and potency over the lifetime of each cartridge. What this means is no more orange or yellow tinted water due to the presence of oxidized ascorbic acid inside the vitamin cartridge.
Increased capacity - The VS-1's capacity is more than double that of the older SF-1, from 180g-200g up to 400g of total vitamin within each cartridge. This increased capacity will pay off when it comes to overall cartridge life. With this increase comes an estimated capacity of 20,000-25,000 gallons per cartridge. Each VS-2 cartridge should last between 6-12 months in a two person household. That equates to 2-3 ten minute showers per day at 2.5 gallons per minute for up to a year. This is absolutely unheard of in a Vitamin C based shower filter, but we've done it.
Easy installation* - Due to our use of high quality plastics, the VS-1 self seals to the shower arm during installation, eliminating the need for Teflon tape. Even with slightly damaged or corroded shower arm threads, we've made installation a snap. Most users will no longer even be required to use any type of tool to install the VS-1, as hand tightening is generally all that's required.

*Shower arm threads that are significantly damaged or corroded may cause a leak to occur at the shower filter connection point. If this is your case, we highly recommend the use of our shower control valve to ensure a watertight seal between the shower arm and shower filter. This valve simply attaches directly to the damaged shower arm threads with the use of Teflon tape and a pair of pliers. Shower control valves are completely compatible with all modern shower fixtures, whether or not you choose to use our shower filters.

Alternate mounting configurations - Because the SF-1 does not feature an anti-back flow mechanism, it was limited to how it could be oriented during installation. Upside-down mounting with the SF-1 severely reduced it's overall life because of the possibility of leeching or leaking vitamin solution when the shower was not in use. The VS-1 eliminates this problem and gives you full control over exactly how to orient the shower filter to your shower arm. Whether sideways, upside-down or at any angle, the VS-1 will accommodate almost every conceivable shower filter setup. Also, the VS-1 can actually be rotated while it's in use without damaging the unit. This comes in handy if you have a shower caddy and would like easier access to soaps, shampoo or body wash containers located behind the shower filter itself.
Newly designed packaging - The VS-1 features retail store ready packaging, including UPC-A bar coding. The attractive outer box design is further complemented by the superior packing materials used inside to ensure your shower filter will survive the trip to your home. All shower filters (VS-1) and replacement cartridges (VS-2) are vacuum sealed at the factory. Environmentally friendly biodegradable foam end caps are then used to protect the contents from any unforeseen shipping incidents. Each complete shower filter kit (VS-1) and replacement cartridge kit (VS-2) feature a full color installation booklet right inside the box.

The Vitashower VS-1 represents a significant advance in Vitamin C shower filter technology. Although the initial cost for the VS-1 will be slightly higher, we feel the overall improvement in quality and lifetime of each cartridge will more than make up for it after the first year of ownership.
